Ferozepur, 09 Sep 2022 (P T network)
125th Saragarhi Day was commemorated on today at Saragarhi Gurudwara in Ferozepur, Punjab. The event is organised annually to honour the memory of the 21 fearless and gallant soldiers of 36 SIKH Battalion of British Indian Army (now 4 SIKH of Indian Army), who laid down their lives on 12 September 1897 defending the outpost of Saragarhi (now in the NWFP region of Pakistan) against 10000 Afghani tribesmen in what is the greatest Last Stand ever witnessed on a battlefield.
The event included release of a ‘First Day Cover’ by General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division as a befitting tribute to the valour and supreme sacrifice in presence of a number of civil and military dignitaries. In addition, the event also included felicitation of the distinguished guests and address by Lieutenant General JS Cheema, (Retd), who was the Guest of Honour this year. The three day event, which witnessed huge attendance from the public, was a befitting homage to the brave hearts of Saragarhi.
