9460 people registered so far at OOAT centres
de addiction centre, 6 OOAT clinics catering to needs of those wanting to adopt path of sobriety

During the lockdown period imposed due to Corona virus spread, a large number of people have got themselves enrolled at government run de addiction centres for quitting drugs and adopting path of sobriety. Since March 20 till date 4000 new patients have registered themselves at the OOAT clinics.
Giving this information the Civil Surgeon Barnala Dr G B Singh stated that apart from the De addiction centre established at the Civil hospital Barnala there are six OOAT clinics that are being run in district to treat the addicts at Barnala, Tapa, Bhadaur, Mahal Kalan, Dhanaula and Chananwal. He added that since lockdown till date more than 50 patients have been treated at the de addiction centre and currently five are admitted at the center.
He said that from March 29 till date 4060 new patients have been registered at OOAT clinics while till now 9460 patients have been enrolled so far in district.
He added that during Covid pandemic the treatment for drug addiction is being unabated. During curfew / lockdown the patients were given medicine for 15 days to three weeks together to ensure that they need not get out of their houses daily.
He added that while providing general medical services too the patients were regularly being given tips to stay away from Corona and maintain social distance. In view of any kind of medical emergency one can call at 01679-234777.
