Governance has come a long way from works being done on type-writers to people filing their grievances online from the comfort of their home. Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mrs Punamdeep Kaur, IAS, said while addressing a special session held under Good Governance Week today.
On the directions of Department of Governance Reforms, Good Governance Week is being observed in district from Jan 19 to Jan 25. As per government directions a workshop was conducted to discuss good governance practices being followed under e services in district and former Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Gurloveleen Singh Sidhu IAS (retd) invited as the chief guest.
Workshop aimed at initiatives being taken on part of administration to reach out citizens on grass root level in most effective manner.
Speaking at the event, wherein innovations and achievements in district administration Barnala were shared through a power point presentation, Mrs Punamdeep Kaur said that the district has been topper in Ayushman Bharat scheme of health department. The district has covered 87 percent of targeted schemes under this and 34360 patients have been given cashless treatment.
Similarly, the district has introduced an innovative technique at Sewa Kendras – where citizen centric services are delivered. A dual monitoring system has been introduced wherein the applicant can simultaneously view details being uploaded by operator in his or her application thereby ensuring correctness of data uploaded. Also at the Barnala sewa kendras, LEDs have been put up that display that bear details of all the services offered as well as the documents required to be filed by applicants while applying for the service.
District Barnala is also front runner in state in implementing digitization licences in mandi board. This digitization has been helpful in putting an end to sale of crops from outside the state in the Punjab grain markets. Earlier, taking advantage of MSP on crops in Punjab, many people from outside the state used to sell their produce in Punjab and also faced legal action for the same. But with advent of digitization of records, this bogus billing has been stopped, Deputy Commissioner added. Also portals developed for districts were discussed.
She also explained about the digitization of land revenue records. A new service has now been introduced that allows a person from Barnala to apply for fard of any other district. The copy of fard is received through courier.
Appreciating these efforts of Barnala administration, retd IAS Mr Gurloveleen Singh (who has served as DC Barnala from 2013 to 2016) congratulated district for achievements. He motivated all the officers and employees to spend more time in field, learning problems of people and striking a rapport with public. He said that governance should be very efficient and no person should be bereft of government schemes.
