TEAM CONDUCTED CHECKING IN LAST WEEK OF JANUARY

The municipal council Barnala has been awarded with Open Defecation Free (ODF) plus plus status by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India.
Giving this information here today the Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr Tej Partap Singh Phoolka lauded the efforts of municipal council Barnala for getting the status thereby reiterating its commitment towards keeping the city clean.
Executive Officer Mr Manpreet Singh Sidhu said that team from Government of India conducted surprise checking during the last week of January. After the checking, Ministry of Jal Shakti declared the municipal body as ODF plus plus.
“The MC Barnala was awarded ODF plus status in the last year . Thereafter, at national level the centre government decided that cities will be awarded ODF plus plus status for maintaining the previous ODF plus status awarded to them,” Mr Sidhu explained.Municipal Council Barnala has come up public toilets at different places in city that are open from 5 am to 10. Toilets have been constructed at Handiaya Park, ITI Chowk, Prem Nagar on Dhanaula Road, Thikriwal Chowk near Noor Hospital, Superdent Mohalla, Sadar Thana near civil hospital and Chintu Park.
All the toilets have dedicated staff for operation and maintenance, water arrangement, cleaning facilities etc. Sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators have also been installed in the toilets. New pads are available at insertion of Rs 5 coin and the incinerator is meant for effective disposal of the used pads. Besides, this STP is also operational in Barnala, which is required for ODF plus plus status.
