Punjab government takes significant steps to improve health of school students: School Education Minister Singla

Punjab School Education Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on Tuesday, said that the state government, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, has ensured potable drinking water to almost all the schools in the rural areas of Sangrur district to mitigate the effects of impurities on the health of the students. The cabinet minister said that the water supply and sanitation department has ensured the provision of safe drinking water to 1,232 government and private schools in the rural areas of the district which was also being used to cook mid-day-meal for the students. He said that similarly, supply of potable drinking water has also been provided to 1,428 Anganwadi Centers in Sangrur district.
Mr. Singla said that the Punjab Government has been committed to improve standards of the education as well as the safety and health of the students under which continuous efforts were being made. He said that apart from providing safe drinking water, provision of separate toilets for boys and girls in schools was also being ensured. He said that such facilities not only have significant achievements to improve personal health and hygiene of the students but also help in boosting their confidence.
Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that the infrastructure of government schools in Sangrur district was being improved under which smart schools were being set up on a large scale. He said that the process of converting all the government schools, from primary to senior secondary level, into smart schools was in progress and the school rooms in the smart schools had also been converted into smart classrooms. He said that in smart classrooms, the required infrastructure like projectors and computers etc. have been made available through which e-content was being used for education. He said that with all the students of class XII in government schools have been provided free smartphones under Punjab Smart Connect scheme which was proving to be beneficial for the students.
