PROGRAM AIMED AT WATER CONSERVATION AND RENOVATION OF WATER BODIES

        In order to motivate the public to undertake water harvesting and other conservation measures, the flagship program Jal Shakti Abhiyan: ‘Catch the Rain Where it falls when it falls’, was kick-started in Ludhiana on Monday.

Participating in the video conferencing, Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Sandeep Kumar said that water conservation was an urgent necessity in these days when most parts of the country were witnessing sharp decline in the water table.

He said that the campaign was launched for sensitizing all the stake holders on water conservation through setting up rain water harvesting system, ground water recharge and management of household waste water for reuse in agriculture.

He said the state government, led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, was making concerted efforts to save the depletion of groundwater further either by plantation of saplings, increasing green cover and other measures.

Kumar informed that mostly the rainwater got wasted and it either went into the sewage or evaporated which could be used to replenish the groundwater.

He also called upon the youths to become ambassadors of water conservation in their localities where they live. He said that it is a collective duty for all of us to save this precious asset otherwise we would face dangerous consequences on the earth.

He said the wastage of water must be stopped at any cost and requested farmers and the public to conserve water for their future generations.

He added said that various Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities would be carried out to sensitize the masses about the importance of the conserving the rain water.

Additional Deputy Commissioner asserted that water conservation should be a social responsibility of every individual so that water can be saved for future generations.
