DGP Punjab honours families of Martyrs’

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta on Friday unveiled the newly constructed Martyr’s Memorial at District Administrative Complex in Barnala and paid floral tributes to around 1800 Police Personnel, who laid down their lives while safeguarding the people of Punjab.
The DGP also met with the families of around 22 Martyrs, who belonged to Barnala. Deputy Commissioner TPS Phoolka, District and Sessions Judge Varinder Aggarwal, DIG Patiala Range Vikramjit Singh Duggal and SSP Barnala Sandeep Goel were also present on the occasion.
Remembering the martyrs, DGP Dinkar Gupta said that the Punjab had been very difficult days of terrorism and a number of innocent people had lost their lives during the terrorist affected period spanning over 15 years.
The DGP said that of around 30000 innocent people, who had lost their lives, around 1800 of them were Punjab Police Personnel of all the ranks from DIG to Constables.
He said that Barnala used to be a hotspot during the terrorism phase and around 27 Police personnel hailing from Barnala had laid down their lives while fighting terrorist and anti-national forces.
“Punjab Police would be the only force not in our country but across the world, which had given such supreme sacrifices for the safety of the Nation and the State. I feel blessed that I got a chance to bow my head at this memorial and meet the families of Martyrs’ here,” said DGP Dinkar Gupta.
He also assured all possible help and support to the families of Martyrs from the Punjab Government and the Punjab Police.
