Central University of Punjab created COVID-19 Information Portal to fight against Infodemic

                    To empower people across the world to fight against Novel Corona Virus with authentic information, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) has launched India’s own unique COVID-19 Information Portal at CUPB City Campus om 25 April 2020, on which most of the authentic information and sources are available for the references, research, and common understanding of the phenomenon. CUPB has taken initiative to develop a unique information portal for internet users under the guidance of honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof R.K. Kohli, where all the important information and official links are provided at one forum. This portal will provide exclusive authentic information to scientists, medical practitioners, administrators, media persons, bureaucrats and diplomats. The launching ceremony of CUPB COVID-19 Information Portal was attended by Prof V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, Prof S.K. Bawa, Prof Tarun Arora, Prof Amandeep Kaur, Dr Bhupinder Singh, Dr Amandeep Brar, Dr Rubal Kanozia, Mr Nivedan Salwan (Assistant Registrar), Mr Umesh Kumar, (Security Officer), Mr Robin Jindal (Public Relation Officer), Ms Anupam Sharma, and other CUPB Employees while maintaining the norms of social distancing.

                           On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof R.K. Kohli mentioned that during this crisis, people are not only struggling to fight with pandemic but also with infodemic due to ample amount of verified and unverified information related to COVID-19 available on the internet. This portal is an attempt to compile the vast and scattered up to date relevant information on a single platform to facilitate the researchers, students, as well as the common man. He added, that this portal would serve as the gateway for exploring research funding, research publications, global updates, government announcements, and strategies to beat COVID 19. This portal would help all of us to collaborate with each other, and win our battle with COVID-19. He also informed that our university will forward a proposal to Central Government to utilize this information portal as a tool to prevent the spread of COVID-19 fake news.

                             He also stated that this portal would encourage scientist to collaborate for path-breaking research on COVID, and help medical practitioners to stay updated with global health updates from authentic information sources, He added, this portal would also help students by providing access to authentic E-Learning Material approved by MHRD. Apart from this, CUPB COVID-19 Information Portal will also help media houses, news channels and broadcasting mediums to report authentic and accurate information by cross verifying the fact, Hence, this portal would act as platforms to access such kinds of important information not only for experts and but also for common people. With this portal, now we could access all the authentic and verified sources of information related to COVID-19 without doubting the credibility and validity. He informed that CUPB has taken this initiative to empower the world to fight with COVID-19 because we believe that the world is one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam).
