“The Punjab Milkfed being one of the leading institutions of cooperative sector always ensures high purchase price of milk to the milk producers which is evident from the six time increase in the purchase price of milk during the last 2 months.”
Disclosing this here today in a press communiqué, the Cooperation Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the price of buffalo milk has witnessed increase from Rs. 45 per kg to Rs. 48 per kg from February till now. Similarly, the rates of Cow milk have been increased from Rs. 28 per kg to Rs. 30 per kg. “In the testing times of Covid-19, keeping in view the economic downturn as well as the interests of milk producers the price of milk being provided to them has been increased six times” said the minister adding the milk producers would continue to get good price in future also to make dairy, a profitable venture leading to the benefit of 2.5 lakh milk producers associated with Milkfed.
On the occasion, MD Milkfed Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said that the milk producer sells milk directly to the milk society of his village, of which he is a member thus erasing the possibility of middlemen. The Milkfed knows the pulse of farmers which is clear from the fact that at District level the Milkfed is managed by the milk unions while at State level the elected representatives of milk producers manage the affairs. He also appealed to the rest of the milk producers to become members of the milk society of their respective villages and exhorted those who haven’t formed milk societies in their villages to do so without fail. This would enable them to derive benefit of increased purchase prices of milk, Verka animal feed, Semen of high quality bulls and other services of the technical nature, added the MD.
